Welts are red lumps on the skin which are often itchy. They are usually raised with a balanced center. They appear in various shapes and in various sizes. Skin welt is a very common problem. They are mostly seen in children and teenager and lesser in adults. The man factor which is responsible for skin welts is the scar tissues, which are produced in the body. One of the main symptoms of the welts is these are very itchy. Welts usually are in red color but sometimes these can have same color as of body. These can cover any part of the body like ear, neck, abdomen, chest, arms, legs etc. These are usually found in wounds. It can be a symptom of a serious problem too. If you are allergic to something, then also you can develop welts.
Certain insect bites, infections or sensitive skin can also cause welts on the skin. If you eat sea food then it can also cause welts on the skin sometimes. If these are severe and are getting on your nerves or causing much concern then you may require medical attention. These can cause a burning sensation on the skin and you can feel little feverish too. If these are due to sensitive skin, then you need not to worry about it. But if it is getting large and spreading over a large area then you can consult a doctor so that condition does not get worsen. Welts can also be formed due to exposure in heat, cold, sunlight.
A medical condition that is called dermatographia which means sensitive skin cells can also cause skin welts. If a person has dry skin then it can also be a cause of skin welts. You can apply ice on the welts to reduce the pain, itchiness and burning sensation. Some welts goes on its own like the welts which are formed due to if someone holds you tightly. If you have dry skin then try to keep it moisturize with good quality skin lotion. When welts become too itchy then they are called hives. The appearance of hives can lead to a medical condition that is Anaphylactic Shock which can be deadly if left untreated. Seek medical attention immediately if at any time you find these kinds of welts on your skin. You can ask your doctor for some precautions which you can take if you have sensitive skin or you develop skin welts very often.
