A Graphics card is also known as a Video card. Graphics Card is an essential part of a computer and is responsible for creating images or displaying the graphics content on the computer screen. This card is required for each and everything user performs on his or her computer. These things can be playing games, watching videos or viewing pictures. Gamers often spend a lot of money on Graphics Card than any other component of the computer system as certain games require newer graphics cards with latest configurations. If a user is not having a graphics card, he or she might not be able to see anything on the computer screen.
The monitor of the computer system plugs directly into the graphics port on the computer by which the user is able to see images from the computer. Graphics Card is integrated into the motherboard in many laptops or it is a part of motherboard only. In such laptops, the graphics card is not removable or cannot be upgraded. One major disadvantage of integrated Graphics Card is that if the graphics card fails, the user has to replace the whole motherboard. While in desktop computers there are rare cases that a Graphics Card is integrated with the motherboard and hence can be upgraded to newer configurations when needed.
These cards helps the cpu offloading the hard work of calculating that how images look, especially in 3D graphics as rendering a 3D scene to the scree takes huge amounts of processing power. This processing power can be so much that the fastest graphics processors even contains more transistors than the CPUs and hence needs direct power supply and fans to cool it. The hardware of Graphics Card directly affects its speed.
Some main components of a Graphics Card are:Graphics Processor (GPU) Memory RAMDAC – for display output and etc…
If these components are performing fast, then the Graphics Card will also be having faster processing.
Some of the factors which the user has to keep in mind while buying a Graphics Card is that he or she should be aware of what kind of graphics card it is compatible with and how fast the user’s CPU should be, what kind of operating system it works on, how much RAM (memory) the user needs and finally it should meet the needs of the user so that he or she should be satisfied.
