Sour stomach is also called acid indigestion, acid stomach or dyspepsia. This is a very common problem which any one can experience at any time. It is usually associated with bad eating habits. It is caused due to the presence of hydrochloric acid in the stomach. Sour stomach can be very uncomfortable and it can cause pain in the stomach. One of the symptoms of sour stomach is excessive belching and stomach bloating. If you take dinner just before the sleeping time then it can also lead to sour stomach. Sour stomach is usually not harmful but it can also be a reason of several other gastrointestinal problems so better to check with a doctor once to ensure that there is not any severe problem. Several causes of sour stomach can be:
Eating in hurry or quickly: this causes acidity as you don’t chew the food properly. Eating something which is difficult to digest: if you eat something which you feel that you find it difficult to digest, then it can also cause sour stomach as it will hamper the digestion process. Overeating: don’t overeat. When you eat many times a day, it causes acid in the stomach. It can also lead to heartburn. Eating too late or not at the right time: try to eat an hour before the time you go to your bed. Eating heavy food: try to take light food. Don’t take food which is full of fat. Consumption of alcohol and tobacco can also be the reason for sour stomach: the people who have the habit of drinking and smoking usually face sour stomach. Try to avoid this too. Stress is also one of the reasons for sour stomach: try to reduce stress in your life. Meditation is a good method to reduce stress.
Persistent sour stomach can lead to ulcers and several other problems. Gastroesophageal reflux disease or GERD can also be caused due to chronic sour stomach. It is a disease which causes severe upper abdominal pain. This pain can be too horrible that it can lead you to toss and turn whole night. Stomach cancer is also one of the main diseases which can be caused due to the sour stomach. For sour stomach, you can take ginger tea. You should try to eat a healthy a diet. Eat less and slowly. It will help you in getting rid of sour stomach but if the problem persists then see a doctor as soon as possible.
