Phenolic is synonymous to Resin, a material made of aldehyde and basic resin. Generally, Phenolic is used with rigid materials basically to create moldings for customers’ products, for any kind of installation, for any bearings. There are a few people who use Phenolic as a binder. The name Phenolic can also be used to refer the entire class of phenol. This kind of Phenolic belongs to the hydrocarbon groups, which functions like alcohol. However, the meaning of the word Phenolic may differ in several fields, what important is to learn about the functionality of Phenolic as a compound, not as a literal word.
How Phenolic is made:
Both Phenolic and Phenolic resin can be made by combining the base phenol with any kind of aldehydes. However, the combination that is made of formaldehyde is the more demanding one. This kind of Phenolic is widely known as Phenolic formaldehyde Resin or in short you can call it PF as well. Phenolic resin is known as the first manufactured resin and it has been marketed by the brand Bakelite, which still deals in this Phenolic resin. The maximum use of Phenolic resin is viewed widely in Industries, where both the formal dehyde is used with several other organic compounds and also with phenol to create resin.
Uses of Phenolic foams
Phenolic foams are also a kind of resin, which is being manufactured by combining phenol with different other organic compounds. Phenolic foam is a kind of insulation material used to build HVAC systems. Phenolic foams have no other alternative to deliver enough strength and durability to a HVAC system in houses and offices. This Phenolic foam is available in two forms- Panel or board form or Foam in application. Here are a few advantages of using Phenolic foam instead of any other insulation material:
- The Phenolic foam offer more structural strength and density to your HVAC system. Most of the panels of this special type of foam have a density of more than 80 KG, which can be used as structural support for 64 tons / m2.
- Phenolic foam generally consist low thermal conductivity. It is attributed to it in the presence of gasses and also to its close structure of cell.
- Foam Phenolic can resist more moisture in comparison with other insulation material.
- It can also fight other chemical reaction happening on your HVAC system successfully and prevent it from damages and declines.
Other uses of Phenolic:
Apart from insulation material Phenolic can also be used as a binding agent to hold chipboard, composite woods and plywood as well. However, Phenolic becomes fragile to work as a binding agent, which is regarded as disadvantage of using Phenolic, but it creates a very little smoke if you combust Phenolic. A higher grade of Phenolic can resist temperature up to 185 degree C or 370 degree F. That is why Phenolic is being used by the builders’ world wide to add more life to any fixture and to make it durable and long lasting.
Phenolic as a compound work in many ways and if you know the proper uses of this compound you can use it on your favor for binding, fixing and last but not the least for insulating.
